Testicular torsion is a surgical emergency. Patient starts sudden acute pain and swelling of scrotum. Usually there is history of heavy weight lifting or sport activity.Surgery is required to correct testicular torsion. If surgery is delayed there may be gangrene of testis and you need to remove the affected testis.In some instances, the doctor might be able to untwist the testicle by pushing on the scrotum (manual detorsion). But you'll still need surgery to prevent torsion from occurring again.
